Position Overview

Are you a motivated electrical safety professional looking to make a meaningful impact on complex construction projects? As an Electrical Safety Manager, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of electrical safety programs supporting construction, commissioning, startup, and maintenance activities. Serving as the subject matter expert on electrical safety, you will partner with project teams, supervisors, electricians, subcontractors, and management to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, client requirements, and company policies. This role is responsible for identifying and eliminating electrical hazards, fostering a strong culture of safety, and ensuring work is completed safely without compromising project performance. This role is located in Love’s Park, IL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA electrical regulations and NFPA 70E requirements.
  • Assist projects in implementing site-specific electrical safety plans.
  • Participate in pre-construction planning and electrical risk reviews.
  • Lead, manage, and support safety initiatives within utility, transmission, distribution,
  • substation, renewable energy (solar PV, BESS, RNG), and electrical construction environments.
  • Conduct electrical hazard assessments and job site inspections.
  • Evaluate risks associated with energized work, temporary power systems, equipment startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Review electrical work plans, JHAs, JSAs, and permits.
  • Recommend engineering and administrative controls to reduce risk.
  • Provide oversight of hazardous energy control programs.
  • Verify proper lockout/tagout procedures are implemented and maintained.
  • Conduct audits of energy isolation procedures.
  • Assist project teams with complex energy isolation plans and group lockout activities.
  • Evaluate arc flash and shock hazards.
  • Verify proper arc-rated PPE selection and usage.
  • Ensure electrical equipment is properly labeled.
  • Review energized electrical work permits and safe work practices.
  • Conduct NFPA 70E training for qualified and unqualified workers.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and electrical safety awareness training.
  • Train employees on electrical hazard recognition, safe work practices, shock protection boundaries, and arc flash hazards.
  • Assist in qualification of electrical workers.
  • Conduct routine electrical safety audits and field observations.
  • Inspect temporary power systems, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, panels, and energized equipment installations.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Track corrective actions and verify completion.
  • Investigate electrical incidents, near misses, arc flash events, shocks, and equipment failures.
  • Determine root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Communicate lessons learned throughout the organization.
  • Participate in startup, testing, commissioning, and energization activities.
  • Review commissioning plans for electrical hazards.
  • Verify safety controls prior to energization.
  • Support project teams during high-risk commissioning operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent electrical construction and safety experience may be considered.

OR

  • 5+ years of electrical construction, commissioning, maintenance, or electrical safety experience preferred.
  • Experience working with commercial, industrial, utility, mission-critical, manufacturing, or healthcare projects.
  • Candidates should possess, or demonstrate the ability to obtain, nationally recognized safety credentials such as:
    • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST)

Salary & Benefits

Range: $90,000-$105,000 annually
