Position Overview

Are you an experienced Virtual Design and Construction Technician with a thorough knowledge of mechanical system prefabrication and installation throughout a broad spectrum of building types? As a BIM Fabrication Specialist, you will drive prefabrication quality control and streamline fabrication processes through cloud-based platforms such as Stratus. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating fabrication assemblies, managing material spools, and supporting field installations by ensuring compliance with project standards and codes. This role emphasizes collaboration between BIM Tech, shop and field teams, leveraging technology to integrate fabrication models with real-time construction activities.

This role is located in our Freeport, IL office and this position is not eligible for remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Publish fabrication assemblies to Stratus, ensuring accurate BIM data integration with field installation workflows.
  • Create material spools and fabrication packages, ensuring part quality and accuracy.
  • Release fabrication Bill of Materials (BOM) via Stratus to support project managers/engineers in material orders, shop budget control, labor tracking, and schedule look-aheads.
  • Provide responsive field support by ensuring access to 3D models on-site using cloud platforms like OneDrive and AutoDesk Cloud.
  • Monitor field changes in collaboration with foremen, performing site visits as necessary to make immediate updates to models.
  • Review design models on Stratus, ensuring compliance with project standards and regulations for field installations and material parts.
  • Host internal project meetings to provide weekly updates on project phases and ensure alignment with project managers/engineers.
  • Centralize project data using management platforms like Autodesk BIM 360, Procore, or Trimble Connect, ensuring seamless organization and accessibility of models, drawings, and specifications.
  • Maintain a revision history for Navis models, enabling audit trails and compliance tracking.
  • Familiarity with shop scheduling, labor tracking, and budget control processes.
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic project changes and perform on-site problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Degree, or a related field
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with BIM and fabrication software, specifically Revit, Navisworks, Stratus, and cloud-based platforms such as Autodesk BIM 360, Procore BIM, OneDrive, etc.
  • A minimum of one year of experience of the design and layout of Aquatic Systems, Industrial Piping, and HVAC hydronics
  • A minimum of one year of experience with prefabrication workflows and fabrication assembly processes.
  • Understanding of field installation practices, building codes, department of public health codes, uniform plumbing codes and construction codes/regulations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Previous work experience in a BIM Department, understanding piping system layouts, HVAC sheet metal installations, plumbing codes, design and layout of aquatic systems, along with field deliverable requirements.
