Position Overview

The BIM Coordination Specialist is responsible for planning, leading, and executing the BIM Coordination process on assigned projects. This role serves as the primary driver of model-based coordination, ensuring that trade models are accurately integrated, clashes are resolved efficiently, and coordinated models support construction, fabrication, and field execution.

The BIM Coordination Specialist works closely with Project Teams including General Contractors, MEPFP Trade Partners, and project management to maintain model quality, enforce coordination standards, and drive timely issue resolution throughout the project lifecycle. This position is located in our Westmont, IL office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the BIM Coordination process from project kickoff through construction, including setup, execution, and closeout.
  • Develop and manage coordination schedules, meeting cadence, and milestone deliverables.
  • Facilitate and run BIM Coordination meetings, ensuring productive discussions and clear resolution paths.
  • Track, assign, and follow up on clashes and coordination issues to closure.
  • Aggregate and manage multi-trade models in coordination platforms (e.g., Navisworks, ACC, Revizto or equivalent).
  • Review models for accuracy, alignment with project standards, and readiness for coordination.
  • Ensure models meet required levels of development (LOD) and are suitable for downstream uses such as fabrication, layout, and installation.
  • Maintain consistent model organization, naming conventions, and version control.
  • Perform clash detection and identify constructability issues across all trades.
  • Prioritize clashes based on impact to schedule, cost, safety, and constructability.
  • Document coordination issues clearly and assign them to responsible parties.
  • Verify clash resolution and maintain clean, coordinated models.
  • Act as the primary BIM Coordination point of contact for project teams and trade partners.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, VDC/BIM Managers, and field teams to align model decisions with construction intent.
  • Communicate coordination outcomes, risks, and constraints to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
  • Support field teams by providing coordinated models, views, and documentation as needed.
  • Enforce company BIM/VDC standards, coordination workflows, and best practices.
  • Assist with project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) as related to coordination.
  • Identify coordination process improvements and provide feedback to BIM/VDC leadership.
  • Support onboarding and guidance of trade partners unfamiliar with coordination standards.
  • Strong technical skills in MEP design and installation, as well as excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Understanding of building codes and regulations, as well as industry best practices.

Requirements

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in BIM, VDC, or model-based coordination.
  • Strong working knowledge of BIM coordination tools (e.g., Navisworks, Revit, or similar).
  • Proven experience leading BIM Coordination meetings and managing clash resolution.
  • Solid understanding of construction sequencing, trade scopes, and constructability.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in MEP, fabrication, or design-build environments.
  • Familiarity with model-based layout, fabrication modeling, or construction planning.
  • Understanding of BIM standards, LOD requirements, and data management practices.
  • Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ownership mindset and ability to drive coordination to completion.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail with a practical, construction-focused approach.

Salary & Benefits

Range: $70,000-$110,000
