The Helm Group was founded in 1946 as Freeport Blacktop Construction Company. The company's major focus was seal coat and asphalt work in Stephenson County, Illinois until the 1960's. Through the 60's and 70's Freeport Blacktop expanded their range of expertise into underground utilities and structural concrete and pursued work in highway structures, treatment plants, and underground sewer and water projects.
In 1978, the name of the company was changed to Civil
Constructors, Inc. to better describe the entire scope
of work performed. In 1968 a second company was added
to the group when Mechanical Incorporated was formed.
Mechanical was founded to tap into the growing mechanical
specialties trade work that was developing around the
nuclear power plants and water and wastewater treatment
plants that were being built at the time. Since then Mechanical
has grown to be a dominant company in Northwestern Illinois
and has expanded into the Chicago market.
Industrial Solutions was formed in 1995 in response to the design-build market and the growing demand for an extended range of services from construction providers. Industrial Solutions adds professional services to the Helm Group's range of services allowing us to offer construction management, industrial design, and environmental remediation services to our clients.
Filling out our family of business units, Heavy Equipment
Services was established to oversee the maintenance and
distribution needs of the large construction equipment
inventory. CONMAT was established to manage Civil's aggregate
production operations. |
