December 2008

Civil Constructors of Freeport, IL was named 2008 Contractor of the Year in two categories by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for its extensive work on the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Bridge near LaSalle, IL. The $38 million bridge rehabilitation project began in Feb. 2007 and was completed in Oct. 2008. The IDOT awards recognized the company's deck replacement on the bridge and it's traffic control during the process of deck and lighting replacement. The company's success was particularly impressive because of the tremendous scope of the project. The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Bridge (which is over 7,000 feet long) is the longest bridge in the state. Civil's work on this structure has also earned them national recognition. Road and Bridge's Magazine also recognized the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Bridge in their Top 10 Bridges of 2008

 


May 2007

Mechanical, Inc. was awarded a certificate of commendation from the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA Chicago). Mechanical was recognized for having the best safety record for 2007 in the 350,000-500,000 man hour category. The Mechanical Contractors Association is a vibrant, growing association of approximately 2,300 mechanical, plumbing, and service contractors. This award recognizes outstanding performance of MCA member companies.

March 2007
Mechanical, Inc. was awarded a certificate of commendation from the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA). Mechanical was recognized for having an incident rate at least 25% below the industry average for a lost workday case.

Conmat employees attended the annual Mine Safety Adminstration (MSHA) Spring Thaw/State Grants Safety Conference on March 6th and 7th at Starved Rock Lodge in Utica, IL. The conference is also sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. At the conference, attendees received an update from MSHA and instruction on new safety procedures.

Each year the two organizations recognize the safety efforts of the state's aggregate industry. This year Conmat's Eustice Portable Plant was recognized for its excellent safety performance. The award was presented by Mike Woods (right) Mine Safety and Training Division Manager for the Office of Mines and Minerals. Accepting the award (left) is Jeff Bussan, President of Conmat, Inc.

February 2007
Conmat was awarded a certificate of achievement in safety from the US Department of Labor, Office of Mines and Minerals. This certificate recognized Conmat's Dwyer Portable Crushing Spread for it's outstanding safety record in 2006--18,808 man hours without a lost workday injury.

December 2006
Civil Constructors of Illinois received a certificate of merit from the American General Contractors (AGC) of Illinois. This award recognizes Civil's outstanding safety performance and acknowledges our accident frequency rate at less than half the construction industry norm in the 200,000+ man hour per year category.

March 2006
The Illinois Aggregate Association Producers (IAAP) awarded three separate safety awards to Conmat for Rock Solid Excellence in Safety. Each of the three crushing crews were recognized for their outstanding performance.

Conmat received two awards from the MSHA/Department of Natural Resources, Office of Mines and Minerals for their impecable safety record. All four crushing spreads were accident free in 2005. The second award recognized 7,997 man hours being executed at the Eustice Portable Plant with zero accidents.

Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Authority of Northern Illinois (PAMCANI) recognized Mechanical, Inc. with an award for their committment to safety at their annual awards ceremony.

February 2006
Mechanical, Inc. received an honorable mention from the Lake County Contractors Association for Excellence in Safety, Division III.

December 2005
Civil Constructors of Illinois was recently named the recipient of the 2006 American General Contractors (AGC) of Illinois Safety Award. This award recognizes Civil's outstanding safety record in 2005 in the 200,000+ man hour per year category.

March 2004

Civil Constructors of Illinois received two nominations of excellence from the Illinois Department of Transportation at the American General Contractors of Illinois (AGCI) 97th Annual Convention. The department recognized Civil's commitment to excellence in both new bridge construction and partnering. Civil was also recognized with a certificate for having an accident frequency rate below the national average.

December 2002
Civil Constructors of Illinois was recently awarded New Bridge Construction of the Year for 2002 by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The project being recognized was the State Street Bridge over the Kishwaukee River in Belvidere, IL. Personnel key to this project's success were Project Manager Jeff Boldt and Project Foremen Russ Thruman, Fritz Thruman and Doug Diddens. This is the second consecutive year Civil has been recognized for New Bridge Construction of the Year in this statewide competition.

December 2001
The Mississippi Valley Developers (MVD) and American General Contractors (AGC) recognized Civil Constructors of Illinois as leaders in partnering. They were presented the Mississippi Valley Partnering Award for their partnering efforts with the Rock Island Corps of Engineers for their efforts on the Government Bridge Project. This competition encompassed various construction projects from several states located in the Mississippi Valley.

December 2001
The increased efforts for quality control and assurance in Civil Constructors/Conmat laboratories has earned them many accolades from their customers and peers. One instance was a recent recognition by the Illinois Department of Transportation for QA/QC Contractor of the Year for 2001. This was the first time IDOT has made this award and the QA/QC team was honored to accept it.

Safety
April 2004
The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) presented a certificate of commendation to Mechanical, Inc. for achieving safety excellence in 2003. Mechanical had a zero lost workday incidence rate in 2003. The MCAA is a national organization of more than 2,200 mechanical, plumbing and service contractors.

March 2004
Mechanical, Inc. was recently recognized by the Lake County Contractors Association (LCCA) for their excellent Safety Performance in 2003. This award recognized Mechanical's commitment to safety with zero lost workday accidents in the 100,000-500,000 man hour division. The LCCA is an association of over 260 companies in the northern Chicago area which represents the spectrum of construction expertise and support.

March 2004
Conmat was presented an award from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Office of Mines and Minerals for having the lowest accident frequency rate in 2003. This statewide competition recognized Conmat for their excellent safety performance.

January 2004
Civil Constructors of Illinois was recently named the recipient of the 2003 American General Contractors (AGC) of Illinois Safety Award. This award recognizes Civil's outstanding safety record in 2003 in the 200,000+ man hour per year category. This is the third consecutive year Civil has been recognized by the AGC for outstanding safety performance.

June 2002
Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA) of Chicago recognized Mechanical, Inc. for having the most innovative safety program. The award was focused on Target Zero, a safety incentive program that offers employees weekly safety points redeemable toward clothing and other merchandise. The Chicago Branch of MCA serves as a voice for the mechanical specialty contractors in the Chicago area.


Helm Group
May 2002
The Lincoln Foundation recognized the Helm Group for its commitment to excellence and its commitment to continous improvemen for 2001. The Helm Group also earned the Lincoln Award in 1998 in this statewide competition. The Lincoln Foundation for Performance Excellence is a not-for-profit organization that recognizes Illinois organizations that continuously improve their processes to achieve higher levels of performance. Their award criteria models the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Program.
